I’ve driven to and from Santa Fe before but I had never taken the Santa Fe Trail route. The Santa Fe Trail was actually a set of trails. Retracing an exact route today is difficult unless you hike or get on a horse. Even then you will have to traverse many stretches of private land. Modern highways sometimes run close to the original routes. In the 1820s it took two months to travel from western Missouri to Santa Fe. Nowadays it’s a pleasant two day drive. One thing hasn’t changed. There is still a lot of Kansas to cross.
