The major streets around us are mostly laid out on old agricultural section boundaries. They run dead north, south, east and west; it’s boring but it simplifies navigation. The two nicest features of these suburban neighborhoods are visible in this shot: sidewalks and large green offset boulevards. I’ve never seen such wide offsets. In most cities, every square meter of land is filled with houses. Here a wide gap is often set aside and planted with grass. It makes for a very walkable city. Despite the abundant sidewalks I seldom see people walking without dogs. Americans eat too much and move too little. Obesity is self-inflicted people! If you have any doubts look at pictures taken a century ago. There’s nary a lard ass in sight.
